How to use the search tools

The four search tools on this site will assist you to learn more about the variety of job roles in local government. Searches can provide job titles and the associated education levels to perform the role; details of VET qualifications and the training providers that can deliver them; and training pathways for the job that interests you. You can print your searches or share them with others.

Getting around the website:

Any time that you want to go back a page, click on the back arrow in the search bar.

Once you get to a page that you want to print, share with others or go back to the home page and start searching again, use the buttons below the profile area.

Are you a school student, a university graduate or new to local government and have no idea where to start your search?

Use Tool 1: What are you interested in?

Click on the title that you are most interested in e.g. are you interested in the environment? Click on the box with the word ‘environment’. A list of all the jobs in local government that have something to do with the environment will come up. Click on the job title that most appeals to you. This will bring up the level of education that you would need to perform the job, which could be from Certificate II to University level. You can print this page or share it with others.

For VET qualifications you can also click on the qualification code e.g LGA30104 to see what you might learn in studying it (use the hyperlinks to navigate) as well as finding a registered training organisation (RTO) that delivers that qualification. (To find an RTO that delivers the qualification click on “Delivery” next to the heading near the top of the page, click on “Find RTOs approved to deliver this qualification”.)*

Do you work in a local council, career counselling, training, learning and development/HR or know the job title and/or qualification you are looking for?

Use Tools 2, 3 and 4.

Tool 2: Search by job title or education level.

Use the drop down arrows to find a job title/work area and/or select a qualification level that you are interested in.

E.g. If you are interested in or already work in community services and want to know all the job titles that require a Certificate  IV, select ‘community services’ from the first drop down box and ‘VET Certificate IV’ from the second drop down box and click ‘GO’.

This search will show you all the jobs in community services that require a Certificate IV level to do the job. Click on the job title that most appeals to you, then click on the qualification code of the Cert IV title that you are interested in to find out the topics (competencies) you could study for that qualification.

You can also just use the first drop down box (if you only know the job title or main work area) or the second one (if you only want to look up job titles for a certain education level). Either way works.

As explained above, you can also click on the qualification code e.g LGA30104 to see what you might learn in doing that qualification (use the hyperlinks to navigate) as well as finding a registered training organisation (RTO) that delivers that qualification. (To find an RTO that delivers the qualification click on “Delivery” next to the heading near the top of the page, click on “Find RTOs approved to deliver this qualification”.)*

This tool will search for keywords in local council job titles or qualifications only e.g. interested in being a manager? Typing ‘manager’ in the keyword box will find all job titles with the word ‘manager’ in the title. You can also search for all job titles that have at least a Certificate IV level qualification by typing ‘Cert IV’.
